Gushing
2024

Gushing is set at a gym hall and inside a body. Can you see the hormone levels rising?

The project explores processes of regulation through research on how hormones and sport objects direct us to move. The costume is approached as a tool with potential for becoming by looking closer at the lines between body & garment, inner & outer body and private & public body.

text by Sanne Karssenberg & Marina Sasseron:

Oline Bronée’s thesis In Gushes of Hormones we Spiral departs from a study of hormonal changes in the early stage of pregnancy. The combination of autofiction and theoretical research generates a poetic and contextual framework for a journey through and with the body in relation to their surroundings. Oline invites the reader on this physical, scientific and emotional transformative trip by posing questions about gender, the boundaries between the individual and collective body and the societal norms that guide the regulation of hormones.

Simultaneously, this thesis explores a new definition of fashion. A definition that includes the magic of movement as a condition for a world in togetherness. Movement is constant and collective, and so is fashion. It takes place in between people, objects, emotions and surfaces. Oline references Sara Ahmed’s writing on the stickiness of emotions to underpin the influential but also often underestimated position of hormones as instigators of movement and change.

The Casting
2023

Looking at the fashion show as one big casting procedure, The Casting is a video-format fashion show, where two rooms (a waiting room & a casting room) are on display, and not the body nor garment. We are presented for the rooms through the lense of different bodies: the jury, the applicant, the model & the audience.

The Casting was created through writing, researching and moving around the architecture and body language of the casting, seeking to get under the skin of the structure. How do we, as bodies produced by these narratives of power, relate to the rooms and the procedure shaken up into new forms?
